Various fuel schemes are provided by the Federal Government and these are administered by the ATO. The schemes and grants aim to reduce the price of certain fuels, or to provide environmental benefits, such as the recycling of oils.
The Schemes are:
- The Fuel Tax Credit Programme: This helps reduce fuel costs by providing a credit for tax (excise duty) included in the price of fuel, where that fuel is used for particular activities, within nominated industries. Most businesses are able to claim fuel tax credits, but the rate will vary depending upon the activity. To claim you must be registered for GST and fuel tax credits. Credits are claimed via the BAS (Business Activity Statement).
- The Cleaner Fuels Grant Scheme: This scheme encourages the manufacture or importation of fuels that have a lower impact on the environment. Eligible fuels are bio diesel, and renewable diesel, plus low sulphur unleaded petrol (PULP), and ultra low sulphur diesel (ULSD).
- The Energy Grants Fuel Scheme: This scheme provides a fuel grant for businesses using alternative fuels for road transport. The fuels are; ethanol, LPG, LNG, CNG, and bio diesel.
- The Product stewardship for Oil Scheme:This support the recycling and remanufacture of oils, for obvious environmental sustainability reasons. This purpose includes the recycling of oils and the reuse of recycled oils.
